Watch: Robin Padilla Not Sorry for “Forcing” PGT Korean Contestant to Speak Tagalog (Video)

Actor Robin Padilla was heavily criticized on social media after he “humiliated” Kim Jiwan, a Korean contestant of “Pilipinas Got Talent” (PGT) aired last Saturday night, January 13 at ABS-CBN. But in a later interview, he explained his side and said that he was not sorry for what he did. Watch the PGT audition and Robin’s interview videos below.

During the audition interview, Jiwan told the PGT judges that he grew up in the Philippines and that he loves the country so much. In fact, he said has a Pinay girlfriend, who also went on the stage. However, the Korean said that he cannot speak Tagalog because it was not being taught at the international school he attended.

“Firstly, mag-Tagalog ka muna bago mo ako kausapin. Look at the back. It says ‘Pilipinas Got Talent.’ You are in the Philippines. You should speak Tagalog first before you could use me.” Padilla told Jiwan, when the Korean requested him to be part of his close-up magic act. Nevertheless, co-PGT judge and actress Angel Locsin rescued the Korean. Later, Robin finally agreed to be part of Jiwan’s magic act after the latter said he will try to speak Tagalog. The “Bonifacio” actor was pleased, and even hugged him, telling him, “Welcome to the Philippines!” and thanked him for loving the Philippines. Jiwan passed the audition after Robin, Vice Ganda and Angel Locsin said “Yes” to him.

However, tons of viewers rushed to Twitter and accused the pro-Duterte actor of being rude and racist. Most of them said that Robin should not have forced the Korean contestant to speak Tagalog since the latter knows how to speak English. Others said that Filipinos also join international contests, but were not forced to speak local dialects.

As a defense, Robin Padilla did not apologize, saying that he did not humiliate and scold Jiwan. He said that the 20-year old PGT Korean contestant has been in the Philippines, and should have learned how to speak Tagalog. “Wala akong pinagsisihan…hindi ko naman siya inaway, sinabihan ko lang siya na parang Tatay.” He said.
