Trillanes Attends UN Drug Conference in Vienna, Austria as Fil Am NGO, Not as Senator

Senator Antonio Trillanes was spotted in Vienna, Austria while attending a crime and drugs conference via the United Nation (UN). But apparently, the Liberal Party (LP) ally senator identified himself as a member of a Fil-American NGO (Non-governmental organization), and not as one of the elected senators in the Philippines.

“According to my reader based in Vienna, Trillanes is currently in UN branch in Vienna, Austria attending a UN drug and crime conference. His ID doesn’t say that he’s part of the PH Senate but of a Fil-American NGO. Why? Anong Fil-American NGO kaya iyan?” Sass Rogando Sasot wrote on Facebook, Thursday, March 15.

“Senator (Senate President Koko) Pimentel, I think it’s time to flex some muscle. Galaw, galaw naman diyan. (Make some moves.)” The pro-Duterte blogger added, as the caption of a photo of Sen. Trillanes taking some juice from a dispenser, beside a line of people who most likely are also attendees of the said UN conference.

“There’s UN drugs and crime conference but before and as always, PDEA officials are always attending it. I found out that his ID was Fil-American NGO and not the Philippines. Tomorrow at 13:30 he will deliver his speech.” The Filipino netizen, who said he (or she) is working at United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), is sitting in another seat.

In late February, Inquirer reported that David Borden, executive director of the UN-accredited Drug Reform Coordination Network said Trillanes was invited to attend the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs’ annual meeting in Vienna, Austria on March 15. The event’s theme is “Human Rights Challenge: One Year Later, Drug War Extrajudicial Killings Continue.”

Trillanes, a staunch critic of President Rodrigo Duterte, is expected to talk about alleged extrajudicial killings (EJKs) in the country’s war on drugs. However, Duterte supporters suggested that the senator will be biased and will not tell the whole truth and that his only intention is to destroy the president’s image to the UN and international media.

Apparently, this is not the first time that Trillanes traveled overseas attending conferences Last October, he admitted going to the US and had talks with some senior American officials. Nevertheless, the soldier turned politician denied lying about the so-called EJKs, and insisted that he said he is only talking based on facts. is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for website owners to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to amazon(.com,, .ca etc) and any other website that may be affiliated with Amazon Service LLC Associates Program.
