Watch: Tricycle Driver Sings ‘Anak’ at Pilipinas Got Talent Auditions 2018, Stuns Everyone (Video)

Meet Rodimer Baselotte, the tricycle driver from Cebu who stunned everyone when he sang his own version of Freddie Aguilar’s “Anak” during the Pilipinas Got Talent (PGT) 2018 audition. Aired last Saturday, February 10, the 28-year old singing tricycle driver performed with so much emotions, along with a “scary-looking” doll. Watch video below.

At first, the audience along with the four judges Robin Padilla, Vice Ganda, Angel Locsin, and Freddie “FMG” Garcia find Baselotte as weird, as he appeared on stage with a doll placed on a seat beside him. But when he started to sing, everyone was amazed with his powerful voice. Not to mention, his melo-dramatic choreography.

Shortly after singing a few lines of “Anak,” the judges started to praise Rodimer, and the crowd could not help but clap their hands. He also added some comic acts, particularly when he sang the line, “masamang bisyo” where he acted like sniffing illegal drugs. At some point, Robin can be seen screaming and clapping his hands with excitement.

After his awesome performance, Rodimer Baselotte received a very warm applause from the judges and the audience as well. But then, PGT host Toni Gonzaga could not help but ask, “Ano yung doll? (What’s with the doll?)”. His fellow co-host Billy Crowford joked, “Anak nya yung doll! (The doll was his child!),” and Toni laughed.

Meanwhile, the crowd would not stop clapping their hands and even gave the 28-year tricycle driver a standing ovation. “Ang galling ng boses nya! (His voice was good!)” Toni Gonzaga said. “Eh pagkagaling galling naman ni Rodimer, in fairness! (Rodimer is really very good!)” Vice Ganda said, and asked him if he dreams of becoming a singer.

According to Rodimer, he wants to sing on TV. But when Vice Ganda asked him if he has a TV set at home, the tricycle driver contestant said they have no electricity at home. During the pre-audition interview, Baselotte said his parents were poor and their source of income is by cutting coconut palm trees to make them as “lumpiang ubod.”

Rodimer said he is also sending his wife to school, and his wife’s brother is taking care of their child, and he does not own the tricycle he drives. He added that they used a lamp at night because they could not afford to pay for the electricity. If he wins the PGT Season 6 grand finals, he said he will use the cash prize to provide the needs of his family.

As expected, the four judges said “Yes” to Rodimer Baselotte, who now moves to the next round. Sad to say, he did not receive a Golden Buzzer from Vice Ganda, who is the remaining judge who has not yet used his buzzer. But for me, I think Rodimer has a huge chance of winning the PGT 2018 Grand Finals and will go a long way as a singer.
