Believe it or not, all 44 students of a class at Ateneo de Davao University (ADDU) graduated with honors this school year 2017-2018. The students belong to Bachelor of Arts in Accountancy Section 5A, where 9 were Summa Cum Laude, 20 were Magna Cum Laude, and 15 were Cum Laude. Watch the inspiring video below.
“Nage-excel kami kasi (We excel because) we do not grow by ourselves. We help each other grow.” Summa Cum Laude Erick Sagot tells ABS-CBN Davao news reporter Bonna Pamplona, adding that none of them expected that of all the students in their section will graduate with honors.
“Accountancy will really test your confidence, your patience. It even makes you doubt yourself but because isa kami, united kami we endure the pain, the anxiety, the apprehensions together,” he said. According to Jenner Chan, Dean of School of Business and Governance, all the students in the university use the same curriculum.
“Sa 5 years, naging close na rin kami sa kanila, so mas madali yung interaction namin. (For 5 years, we have been close to them, so our interaction with them becomes easier.)” Jedda Pascual, another Summa Cum Laude said, referring not only to her classmates, but also to their professors.
“If the student deserves to get an honor award based on his or her academic standing, and all the completion for graduation requirement, then he or she should be part of the graduation Latin honors.“ Chan, said, noting that this is first time that an entire class at ADDU has graduated with honors.
“But usually, we have a cream of the crop. First section is our cream of the crop. Most of the time, 80 to 90 percent of the class has a Latin honor. It’s just maybe this batch may be so competitive, so deserving to get the Latin honors,” he added, hoping that the class will also produce the topnotcher in the CPA licensure examination next month.
