Watch: CNN Philippines News Reporter Calls De Lima as ‘Former Senator’ (Video)

News reporters are human too and are also prone to making mistakes. The latest example is CNN Philippines correspondent AC Nichols, who addressed jailed Senator Leila de Lima as “former senator.” The blooper happened on Friday, May 18 when she was reporting about De Lima’s court appearance that day. Watch the video below.

In a live report via CNN Philippines Newsroom Ngayon, anchorwoman Ruth Cabal reported that Sen. de Lima appeared before the Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court to attend the hearing regarding her alleged involvement in the proliferation of illegal drugs inside the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) when she was still the Justice secretary.

Shortly, Cabal asked for further details from Nichols, who was then covering the event. “Ruth, yun nga. Di na naman natuloy yung mga arraignment ni dating Senator Leila de Lima dito sa Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court sa dalawang branches…sa Branch 205 at sa Branch 206.” Nichols reported while showing the video of De Lima’s arrival in court.

(Ruth. That was it. The arraignments for former Sen. Leila de Lima at the two branches here at Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court have been postponed again…in Branch 205 and in Branch 206.)

According to the report, Muntinlupa RTC Branch 205 Judge Amelia Fabros-Corpuz moved the arraignment to August 10, as she has yet to decide on the pending motion for reconsideration filed by De Lima’s camp against the prosecution’s changing of the case from “illegal drug trading to conspiracy” to “commit illegal drug trading.”

On the other hand, Judge Lorna Navarro-Domingo of Muntinlupa RTC Branch 206 also moved the arraignment to June 22 after she denied the defense’s motion for reconsideration against the amended information, prompting the De Lima camp to file a motion to quash. De Lima has repeatedly denied all the allegations against her.

In addition, De Lima is also asking permission from the court to allow her to attend to the graduation rites of her youngest son Vincent Joshua Bohol, who is set to graduate with a law degree on June 3, from 2 pm to 7 pm in San Beda College in Alabang. The Liberal Party (LP) senator has another son Israel and a grandson named Brandon. is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for website owners to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to amazon(.com,, .ca etc) and any other website that may be affiliated with Amazon Service LLC Associates Program.
