The filing of candidacy for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections is set to start this coming Saturday, April 14. But this early, Cocoy Tenebro, an aspiring candidate for SK Chairman in Barangay Gulod, Novaliches, Quezon City has already encountered a gunpoint and received death threats, demanding him not to run, or else they will kill him.

“Desperate move 101: SK Chairmanship lang pinaguusapan, need nyo pa talagang ipaharang yung bata at tutukan ng baril at sabihing wag ng tumakbo at wag ng makigulo sa pulitika? Utak kriminal lang ang datingan. Ganyan ka na kadesperado.” A certain Evan Reandino Cuesta posted on her Facebook page last Tuesday, April 10.

(We are only talking about SK Chairmanship, but you still need to block him in the streets and point a gun to him, and threatened him not to run and not to enter politics. That’s being criminal minded. You’re that desperate.)

Cuesta was referring to the incident on Monday night, when a man pointed a gun at her nephew Cocoy Tenebro, 24, who will run for SK chairman for the first time. According to her, the suspect was riding his motorcycle and something dropped so he immediately left. Shortly, her nephew went to the nearby barangay hall to seek for protection.

On Thursday, Cuesta posted on Facebook a screenshot of death threats she received that day via text messages from an unknown person, using the number 09395089978. The messages contain cursing, saying that Tenebro was lucky to have escaped, and that he will be killed two days later, or before he can file his candidacy for SK chairman.

“P**ang ina mu. Nakatakas ka lang. Wag kang mag-alala, di ka na aabutin ng 2 araw gago ka. Pinasasakit mo ulo namin. Pasensyahan na lang, kahit sino ka pa.” The death threat reads, followed by “Di ka namin tatantanan, gago ka.” The other text message came from the same cellphone number, and has almost the same contents.

Nevertheless, Cuesta, said they have already filed a blotter against the unknown suspect. In a post, she thanked Major Marlo Barruga of Police Station 4 who personally assisted them, along with SPO4 Gil Niño. As of posting, the suspect is still at large, as their friends and relatives remind them to take care of their selves, especially Cocoy.
