Lawyer and UP sociology professor Florentina Santos-Salas was in TUP-Visayas on Monday as commencement speaker, but her visit did not ended without political-related interview from the local media in Bacolod City.
Prof. Salas was a known Marcos critic during the latter years of former president Ferdinand Marcos in Malacañan Palace, but after Cory Aquino and Fidel Ramos administrations, the professor gradually changed her stance against Marcoses.
After she delivered her commencement speech to around 2,300 graduates, Salas met a group of local media who asked her opinion about the current election campaigns.
“Duterte and Marcos will both win in a landslide election if there is no cheating”, Salas said after an RMN reporter asked her “as a sociologist” who she think will win in the coming elections.
Salas further said that surveys are nothing but business.
“You don’t have to rely on surveys unless it’s done by unpaid and non-partisan organizations. Duterte has Mindanao and Eastern Visayas, Marcos has Ilocanos and Warays. Who other candidates can boast the same territories?”, Salas said.
“I don’t like Bongbong Marcos, but he has better experience and accomplishments than the rest so I will vote for him,” Salas added.
