The People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), and several animal rights groups criticized Senator Risa Hontiveros for giving a truckload of balut to Kalipunan ng Damayang Mahihirap (KADAMAY), on Friday. Hontiveros and other militant leaders visited KADAMAY in Pandi, Bulacan to check the situation and give relief goods after the group said the government failed to live to its promise to feed them.
Aminal rights activist Cheryl Salazar said Hontiveros violated more than 20,000 counts of animal rights when she “feed the pitiful unborn chicks to lazy people.”
“Imagine 20,000 na balut ipakain mo lang sa mga taong naghihintay lang ng grasya. Kawawa yong mga sisiw. Ginawa silang alut para lang ipakain sa mga taong walang kwenta? Hello!”, Salazar said.
[Imagine 20,000 baluts will be feed only to people who are just waiting for food. Those chicks were pitiful. They were made balut just tpo be feed to useless people? Hello]
Salazar also added that the money used to buy those baluts came from taxpayers so the people, especially the working class who pay taxes have the right to complain.
PETA member Daniel Cruz also criticize Hontiveros for mass murdering thousands of live poultry.
Cruz also said that Hontiveros provide only her service to her fellow activists, without considering the rights of working class people.
PETA is also investigating the rumors that buying and selling of dogs is rampant inside KADAMAY occupied housing village.
“We heard several stories that aside from selling housing rights, some people there (KADAMAY), are also picking dogs on the streets of Bulacan, slaughter them inside the villages, and sold the meat to Pangasinan and Ilocos. These people must be stopped immediately”, Salazar said.
The camp of Hontiveros has yet to respond to the complaint. /Frecil Baldoz/
