No Presidential Election on 2022 unless Marcos-Robredo case is resolved, SC says

One day after former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. asked the Supreme Court (SC), acting as Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET), to expedite the protest hearing he filed against VP Leni Robredo, SC has released a controversial initial decision that shocked the camp of Vice President Leni Robredo.

The same day that supporters of President Rodrigo Duterte claimed that the latter was cheated by more than 5 million votes, the Supreme Court has decided to postpone the 2022 general elections until the electoral protest filed by Marcos against Robredo is not resolved.

In a single page immediate resolution released by SC on Wednesday, it said that “all pending cases must be resolved so the people can choose freely without any doubt”. SC is referring to Marcos VS. Robredo case, and the latest allegations of Duterte supporters, which will be tackled also on succeeding days.

The resolution also welcomes petition from either camps.

The camp of Robredo was shocked, but legal counsel Atty. Regina Fernandez said they will do all legal remedies to make Leni Robredo a president by 2022.

The decision issued by the Supreme Court is expected to get mixed response from both Duterte and Marcos critics, but the Congress has no plan to question the SC’s decision. The congress, though House Secretary Divina Gracia said the house is full with so many things and will not deal with the SC regarding election concerns.

The Marcos vs. Robredo case is expected to roll faster according to the said resolution.

The SC also said that the cancellation of the 2022 general elections will give COMELEC enough time to find replacement for Smartmatic, which had been the subject of all cheating during the past and previous elections. /Sebastian Luna/
