Lists of Gemstones and Non-Metallic Minerals Found in the Philippines

The Philippines is one of the richest countries in the world in terms of mineral deposits but most these are composed of metallic minerals like nickel, aluminum, platinum, gold, lead, copper, and others.

Diamonds, emeralds and other highly valuable stones are not found in the Philippines as these minerals are developed in places with a hot climate, especially in Africa and other deserted regions.

Despite of the absence of extremely rare gemstones in the country, there are also valuable materials that worth mining.

Reports from a number of mining companies in the country state that some valuable stones and crystals like hematite, garnet, agate, quartz, and others are found in different parts of the country.

Moreover, although not considered mineral as it is produced biologically, Pearl is abundant in the country. In fact, the largest clam pearl in the world weighing 34-kilogram (75-pound) was found in Palawan by a Filipino fisherman.

Jade, a semi-precious stone was first discovered by American archaeologists in Calatagan, Batangas, and in Palawan during 1930s.

The following are the lists of gemstones and other precious and semi-precious non-metallic minerals that can be found in the Philippines according to several data from mining companies.

  • Agate
  • Amethyst – Businesswoman Sylvia Mariano who deals with precious stones claimed she found amethyst-like crystals in Southern Mindanao
  • Calcite
  • Garnet
  • Hematite
  • Jade
  • Pearl (non-mineral but still a gemstone)
  • Pyrite (also called fool’s gold)
  • Quartz
  • Sphalerite

There might be some precious and other semi-precious minerals just laying around somewhere in the Philippines, especially in remote areas that are waiting to be discovered.

In some extreme places in the heart of the jungles where limestone form and develop, other crystallize minerals are also normally found.



Despite of the lack of precious minerals, people are becoming innovative making synthetic gemstones that resembles natural and authentic gemstones. This imitation often lead to a better business for bead makers and jewelers.
