“Riverdale” stars Lili Reinhart and Camila Mendes slammed Cosmopolitan Philippines for photoshopping or editing their waistlines on the photos featured at the Philippine magazine. The reel-life Betty and Veronica posted their disappointment over the said magazine this Friday, March 9, which incidentally is International Women’s Day.
“Camila and I have worked incredibly hard to feel confident and comfortable in the bodies that we have. It’s an everyday battle, sometimes. And to see our bodies become so distorted in an editing process is a perfect example of the obstacles we have yet to overcome.” Reinhart wrote on her official Instagram account as caption to the photos in questions.
“We are f***ing powerful, beautiful and strong… we aren’t going to hide behind photoshop to conform to beauty standards,” she added. “That’s why I’m calling out @cosmopolitan_philippines. It’s sad that you felt our bodies needed to be slimmed down. But Camila and I are f***ing beautiful. As Is. And you can’t ‘fix’ us.” She added.
Reinhart posted photos of her and Mendes, published by Cosmopolitan US and the ones posted by Cosmopolitan Philippines. One does not a bionic eye to notice that their waists at the Philippine magazine are slimmed down as compared to the ones published by the American magazine. Mendes also express her dismay on Instagram.
“@lilireinhart and I feel disrespected and disturbed by the sight of our photoshopped bodies in @cosmopolitan_philippines. “We want their readers to know that those bodies are not ours; they have been distorted from their natural beauty…I’m not interested in having a slimmer waist, I’m more than satisfied with the one that I already have.” She wrote.
Mendes is featured at Cosmopolitan PH on its March 2018 cover, while Reinhart is featured in the pages of the said issue. The photoshopped images were first published in the February issue of Cosmopolitan US. As of posting, Cosmopolitan PH has not yet commented on this issue, but has already deleted the photos in question on their Instagram account.
