At least five leading Philippine corporations have removed the University of the Philippines from their list of prestigious schools according to Jobstreet.com.
The job market website said the move of the said companies have given chances to graduates of other schools to secure jobs in multi-national corporations.
Jobstreet did not reveal the names of the said companies, but the website said that the firms have enough reasons to delist UP from the list.
Originally, when top corporations opens for hiring, they usually ask “must be a graduate from prestigious school”, Jobstreet said
Although only companies know their own lists, schools that are considered to be included in the lists are (Original list bewfore UP was removed):
- University of the Philippines
- Ateneo De Manila University
- De La Salle University
- University of Sto. Tomas
- Polytechnic University of the Philippines
- Technological University of the Philippines
- Batangas State University
- Philippine School of Business Administration (PSBA)
Jobstreet said one of the possible reasons why UP was removed is because of the recent BAR result, where the University failed to be included in the top 10. Another reason id the recent LET result, where UP’s elementary education got only 13.2%, while its secondary education got 26.4% – the lowest in university’s history.
Jobstreet also revealed that they received feedback from several companies, that most people who started labor union organizations in a non-union oriented company, are mostly from UP. /Carla Clerigo/
