Did You Know? Lists of People Who Suffered Under the Aquino Atrocities, Incompetence

According to political scientist Francis Fukuyama in his latest book, “Political Order and Political Decay: From the Industrial Revolution to the Globalization of Democracy”, former President Benigno Aquino III is the worst president the Philippines has ever had.

Fukuyama discussed many failures of the Aquino administration, but before we go down into conclusion, we go straight to the point.

Few may disagree and would say that Aquino was better because of the slight economic progress, but what about the damage that caused by the former president?

Let’s take a look at some of the major failures, especially the people who suffered and even demised during Aquino’s term in office.

Chief Justice Renato Corona

“Aquino’s defining moment: He bribed the legislative branch to decapitate the judicial branch, with its head replaced by his college buddy. With Chief Justice Renato Corona (picture above) removed from office, he thought his clan could get a much bigger land-reform compensation for its Hacienda Luisita. It was too late, though”.

The executive headed by Aquino bribed the legislative branch to decapitate the judicial branch, with its head replaced by a known ally of the President. That really was this regime’s defining moment. With Chief Justice Renato Corona out of the way, he thought his clan could get a much bigger land-reform compensation for Hacienda Lusita.

There were eight counts for impeachment against Chief Justice Renato Corona. All were proven wrong in the trial, yet he was still removed by the Senate for his failure to disclose his dollar accounts – which was not one of the eight counts.

It would only be unearthed later that each of the 20 senators who found him guilty had received during and right after the trial hundreds of millions of pesos in pork barrel and Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP) funds.

Corona later died due to heart attack.

AFP Chief Angelo Reyes

On January 27, 2011, former Lt. Col. George Rabusa, who was budget officer when Reyes was Armed Forces chief, testified before a Senate panel and accused Reyes of receiving P50 million in “send-off” money when he retired from the Armed Forces, as part of a decades-old military tradition. Reyes denied receiving such funds for his own use and sought to cross-examine Rabusa, but was refused the opportunity. Reyes then did not attend subsequent hearings in both the Senate and the House of Representatives.

On the morning of February 8, 2011, Reyes, together with two of his sons and a bodyguard, visited his mother’s grave at the Loyola Memorial Park in Marikina. He asked his children and bodyguard to go ahead and wait for him in the car, before shooting himself in the chest near the heart. He was rushed to Quirino Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City, but was declared dead on arrival and attempts to revive him were unsuccessful. The cause of his suicide ranges from pressure from the media and the senators taking the questions to a personal level and his connection to the Arroyo administration, with one senator calling him “gutless coward”.

Both the Senate and the House of representatives were suspected to be bribed by Aquino.
