The Commission on Human Rights (CHR), has criticize the National Housing Authority’s (NHA), plan to oust members of the Kalipunan ng Damayang Mahihirap (KADAMAY) who are staying inside 419 housing units in Pandi Residences 3.
Around 1,000 KADAMAY members occupy houses built for government employees, particularly members of AFP, BJMP, PNP, and BFP.
At around 11 a.m. on Sunday, KADAMAY members also forcibly entered Pandi Village 2.
The private subdivision was barricaded as its developer has yet to turn it over to the National Housing Authority (NHA).
But the group was able to get through the barricades by passing through the nearby field.
According to the police, around 5,000 individuals are currently occupying housing units in six different sites.
These include the PNP/AFP Housing, BJMP/BFP Housing, Villa Elise, Pandi Residences 3, Pandi Village 2, and Padre Pio.
NHA personnel are expected to arrive to the resettlement area on Monday morning for the profiling.
Police forces, meanwhile, are on standby should any commotion occur between KADAMAY members and the NHA.
On Monday, CHR spokesman Luis Villareal called the NHA’s move “inhuman”. Villareal also said the houses should be given to KADAMAY members since they are the ones who first occupy the housing units, and also they are homeless.
President Duterte on Monday also warned KADAMAY members who are illegally occupying the housing units, to vacate immediately or he will be obliged to use force.
“Yong mga empleyado ng gobyerno, may pera ang mga yan para magpatayo ng kanilang mga bahay. Itong mga kapatid nating KADAMAY, sila dapat ang bigyan ng pabahay dahil sila ang walang bahay”, Villareal said.
NHA has been avoiding the use of force, but reiterated on Monday that the agency will have no choice but to use police force if the illegal occupants resist. /Mila Sorbito/
