BPI blames tech provider Smartmatic over dagdag-bawas on clients’ accounts

The embattled Bank of the Philippine Island (BPI) on Friday aired its displeasure with technology provider Smartmatic, after the latter changed some script during peak banking hours.

Smartmatic, a system technology company that is notorious in sabotaging its clients’ businesses stole headlines last year when its senior programmer allegedly changed some codes that made Leni Robredo a Vice President.

The same company handles BPI system when a system glitch affected thousands of accounts for several days now. The glitch resulted to abnormalities in the accounts of BPI clients, with some getting millions on their accounts, while others lost thousands to millions. The same dagdag-bawas scheme happened during the 2017 Presidential Elections done by the same technology company.

Although BPI management has already assured its clients not to worry, authorities are still investigating how Smartmatic was able to create a ruckus again.

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), is investigating why senior programmer Marlon Garcia is still in the country and was able to sabotage BPI when he already left the country several days after the 2016 Elections. Garcia is the main suspect in changing the script of transparency server that made Robredo a winner. It is assumed that Garcia is the same person who sabotage BPI’s system for a still unidentified reason.
