Billy Crawford and Coleen Garcia could not help but share their pre-wedding photos to the public via their Instagram accounts. But while the engaged couple looks sweet and fabulous, many netizens were not amused with some photos that include poor Ethiopian children and women in the background, saying that Billy and Coleen were insensitive.
As you can see, Billy and Coleen were wearing elegant, colored outfits in their prenup shoot taken in a remote village in Lalibela, Ethiopia. The wonderful shots were taken by wedding photographer Oly Ruiz, the owner of Metrophoto. However, netizens who did not like the photos with children and women posted negative comments against them.
Below are some of them.
“Why is no one talking about Coleen Garcia and Billy Crawford’s prenup shoot they literally used Ethiopian locals as …props? I don’t know if that’s the word pero girl bakit? Ano gusto nila iparating?”
“That Coleen Garcia-Billy Crawford prenup shoot is just distasteful.”
“I don’t think we should all admire a prenup photoshoot making background props out of Ethiopian women & children. These photos are heartbreaking & enraging at the same time. I understand that prenup photoshoots get so extra these days but to this extent?”
“Ako lang ba yung bothered sa prenup photoshoot ni Coleen and Billy? How they posed in their glamorous clothes and used the Ethiopian locals as props? It’s like showing the stark contrast of the rich from the poor.”
And although there are also netizens who admired the concept, Billy and Colleen decided to delete the photos. Meanwhile, Oly Ruiz defended the photos. “We talked to these people and even asked permission. It’s actually offensive for people to interpret them as props,” he said, who also deleted the same photos in his Instagram account.
“Why slaves? Because they are Africans? Dapat ba pinag gown din namin sila? These people are beautiful, how they are shot is how they are in real life, if you see them as slaves then I feel bad for you,” Ruiz added, but later also deleted his comments probably because it earned tons of criticisms. The Billy-Colleen wedding is set this April.
