Asia Artist Awards Names Julia Barretto as the “Most Down to Earth Asian Celebrity”

Actress Julia Barretto became the first Asian and Filipino celebrity to be awarded by the prestigious Asia Artist Awards (AAA) on Monday, February 20, 2016.

Barretto received the “Most Down to Earth Asian Celebrity” award during the second annual AAA awarding ceremony held at Kyung Hee University’s Hall of Peace in Seoul, and was broadcast live via satellite across Asia.

Julia Barretto beat fellow nominees including famous Korean actress Lee Yeon-hee, Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi, Indian actress Deepika Padukone, and Vietnamese Vu Ngoc Hoang Oanh. Barretto is the youngest among the nominees.

Asia Artist Awards, abbreviated AAA, is an awards ceremony organized by South Korea-based global media entities StarNews and MTN. It honors outstanding achievements and international contributions of Asian artists in television and music

Jullia was informed a month ago and invited to join the ceremony on Monday.

On her acceptance speech, Barretto said in teary eyes that she never expected such distinct award considering her family background being involved in many controversies, especially family problems surrounding the Barretto family, and her relationship with her biological father.

Korean host Lee Si-young said the panel of judges picked Barretto because of her silent life and her pleasing personality towards her fans. /Liza Ballesteros/
