Amazon’s PH Opening Could provide at Least 100K Jobs

Amazon, the world’s biggest online shopping store is coming to the Philippines according to the company’s Asia-Pacific Chief Operation Officer Sydney Brewer on Thursday.

Currently, the Philippine online shopping market is dominated by Lazada. This will not be the case anymore starting 2019 when Amazon start its operation 18 months from now.

Plan to operate in the Philippines was dated as early as 2012, but it was not realized until Lazada posted an increase of more than 30% net profit in the Philippines last 2016.

Amazon is considered a big threat to Lazada.

Brewer also said that even his company is not yet operating in the Philippines, there are already thousands of Filipinos living in the Philippines who are buying products through,, and even

Brewer added that most of the products these Filipinos buy are electronic gadgets, food supplements, and mobile phone accessories not available inside the Philippines.

“Filipinos love to buy Western products, that’s why we bring Amazon to the Philippines”, Brewer said.


The company said it will start building the Philippine headquarters office and several warehouses on 2018.
