Agot Isidro Strikes Again, Criticizes Duterte Anew

President Rodrigo Duterte’s latest controversial joke was not well received by his critics – particularly because it deals with sexual assault.

On May 26, in a speech in front of the 2nd Mechanized Infantry Brigade in Iligan City, the President said he would shoulder the consequences for whatever wrongdoings the soldiers might do while Martial Law remains in Mindanao.

It can be remembered that Pres. Duterte declared martial in the region on May 23, 2017, after reports of the ISIS-aligned Maute group attacked Marawi City.

Naturally many netizens felt that the President’s comments were very insensitive towards women and the implications of the situation in Mindanao.

“I will go to jail for you. If you happen to have raped three women, I will own up to it,” President Duterte said.

Among the personalities offended by the perceived tasteless joke/statement was the daughter of former US President Bill Clinton, Chelsea Clinton and former international tennis champion Martina Navratilova.

Those who expressed similar grievances were several senators, human-rights groups, moralists and even some pro-Duterte supporters such as the chairperson of the National Youth Commission, Aiza Seguerra.

On May 27, singer, actress and vocal Duterte critic, Agot Isidro went on Twitter last Saturday to express her frustrations over the president’s joke.

She tweeted a simple phrase which summed up her feelings:

“Rape is never funny.  Only a fool would think so.”

Before this tweet went viral, Agot published another tweet which criticized the absence of the president while Marawi City was under siege last Tuesday.

It can be remembered that Duterte was in Russia for his 4-day official visit to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Duterte decided to return immediately to the Philippines to personally handle the crisis in Marawi, in conjunction with the declaration of martial law in the Mindanao region.

The hashtag #NasaanAngPangulo became a trending all over Twitter.

Agot Isidro tweeted this hashtag with the following caption:

“Panay drugs kasi ang inaatupag. #nasaanangpangulo

For her part, Agot decided not to indulge her bashers anymore and proceeded to ask followers to pray for those fighting and the innocents of Marawi City. /Jaime Buenafe/Disclaimer: Contributed articles does not reflect the view of This website cannot guarantee the legitimacy of some of the information contributed to us.
