The Philippines is a tropical country that is rich in biodiversity and natural resources.
With more than 7,000 islands, the country also houses hundreds of thousands of animal species that can pose dangers to humans if not properly informed or clueless on how to deal with this dangerous and sometimes deadly animals.
Every island in the Philippines has a different set of dangerous, poisonous, and venomous creatures.
Listed below are the most common animals that pose a threat to humans. These animals can be found in most islands except for the crocodiles which are considered critically endangered.

Scorpions do not attack unless you hurt them but it is always safer to stay away from them. One undeniable fact is that scorpions are venomous. Most species possess a sting comparable to that of a bee sting, but a few scorpion species have a venomous sting that can be lethal to humans.
There is no black widow in the Philippines but it doesn’t mean you don’t need to be careful in dealing with Philippine spiders. Although non-aggressive, they bite freely if provoked and should be considered dangerous to humans. The bite may be very painful, and some species carry venom. First aid and medical attention should be sought as soon as possible, particularly as to children or the elderly.
Carabaos are our national animal because they help us farm our lands and carry almost anything. But despite this, carabaos are very dangerous. If you are not the owner, do not approach a male carabao or you can be gored to death. Male carabaos are very aggressive if they are approached by strangers.
Dogs, either stray or chained, are very dangerous. I was bitten by a dog chained inside of a junk shop and the owner spent more than ₱14,000 on my medications. Dog bites can be fatal if not vaccinated, and even if it has a complete vaccine, a victim should still be injected. A number of people, especially children died of rabies daily in the Philippines.
These extremely creepy creatures are not deadly but you can be killed by a heart attack. Don’t try going into areas that have leeches if you don’t want some of these stick on your skin and suck your blood.
A caterpillar sting is very dangerous and can cause severe skin allergies and other complications. To avoid this, try not paying with plants and leaves as these creatures leave in plants.
Although considered extremely endangered, there are rivers in the Philippines that has deadly crocodiles. Local knows where they are so if you are hiking into some specific places, make sure to ask locals about dangers in the forest.

Fire ants can kill humans. Fire ants carry venom that inflicts severe pains and can irritate the skin on severe levels. A single bite of a fire is very painful. 10 bites of a fire ant can paralyze a person.
Mosquitoes are everywhere and carry a number of diseases including malaria and dengue. If you are new to a place that has many mosquitoes, be sure to apply mosquito repellent on your skin.
